"Why are the Righteous Being Taken Away?"

Yitzchak Izik
12 Cheshvan 5772

Isaiah 57:1 - " The righteous man has perished, but no one takes it to heart, and men of kindness are taken away, with no one understanding that because of the evil the righteous man has been taken away."

A great Tzadik departed from this world on the yahrtzeit of Rachel Imeinu, a"h. [Jeremiah 31 - "Rachel weeping for her children...."] This Jew has made a huge self-sacrifice for the sake of the Torah. And he's only one of the many tzadikim who, in the last months, have disappeared from the world. Sometimes more than two per day; tzadikim, who, some of them are well-known like HaRav HaGaon Rav Natan Tzvi Finkle, ztz"l, and apart from this, very many lesser-known tzadikim in Olam Hazeh, but very distinguished in Heaven. This is the most fearful situation, because what will we do without tzadikim!? And the Tzadikim who are called gedolei hador - the great of the generation - the majority are much older Jews, and we tremble over their health daily. The question is asked: Why!? Why, at this moment in history, are we standing and observing daily how the magnificence of Am Yisrael is simply disappearing. [reference] What is the reason? Very simple. We are really right before the complete redemption, with G-d's help. And Am Yisrael is in a very difficult situation. If we give Am Yisrael too much musar, then Am Yisrael won't want to listen, usually.

[Tehillim 50:17 - "For you hated discipline and threw My words behind you."] And more than this, Am Yisrael is angry at those who tell them the truth, and run away instead of drawing close. Therefore, HKB"H is bringing down upon the Jews hard blows. In the last years, the blows upon Am Yisrael are big and hurt very much. Many Jews who died in a sudden manner, or in traffic accidents, lo aleynu, or in various other ways, lo aleynu, or from many difficult illnesses, lo aleynu. And we bury them and continue onward. We forget and go on, but we do not return in teshuva especially. [Isaiah 42: 25 - "And He poured out upon them the fury of His anger and the strength of battle, and it blazed upon them all around and they did not know, and it burned among them and they did not take heed."]

There are indeed some Jews who have returned in teshuva for real, but the majority continue to move away, and I'm speaking about the chareidim. They continue to move away, continue to drown within the Olam Hazeh and Eigel Hazahav. Indeed, they continue to stick hechshers on it, but it's treif, and it brings only to the end of life, so that a person will lose eternity, chas v'shalom.

But, HKB"H sees that it's not helping - so, He sends the tzadikim from us. Because without the tzadikim, we have no feeling of security at all. And the moment that they disappear from the area - then, everything is the most frightening. It's correct that in Heaven, they will pray for Am Yisrael, and it will help, but every single Jew is obligated alone to make a connection with HKB"H. And this is what will help us. And there won't be for us tzadikim to help, because they almost don't exist here. A little longer and we will really be orphans, Hashem have mercy, and like it is written, that at the end - before Mashiach - it will be a generation of orphans, orphans from rabbis, from tzadikim who direct us and give merit to the generation.

What can I say? Almost twenty years we're speaking, and there are people who are beginning to understand, but they're not the majority. They're continuing to fight Jew-against-Jew about nonsense; Jews doing against other Jews all kinds of evil acts, only from zealotry and hatred and all kinds of negative emotions. 'Machloket' - it's a name for a contest. And the situation is going to get worse. There is violence in the chareidi street and the situation is that whoever wants to raise children to Torah and mitzvot and good works, there is really almost no chance for a child to arrive at true yiddishkeit. Therefore, there must now be an end to the exile. There must be an end to the exile now! This moment! Because there is almost no hope for the future. We feel that the Shechinah is already no longer present all over the world. Many Jews are suffering in the worst way, but we're not waking up. We continue to be happy with ourselves, learning, keeping Shabbat - good Jews, but without heart. For the majority, they are without heart. Also, the yeshivas, also the Beit Yaakovs. Learning and learning, where is HKB"H on the horizon!? Where is HKB"H!? Not in the heart. Not in the heart of the majority of Jews.

Am Yisrael, what I'm saying is not new. Just one thing I want to say: Very dark clouds are on the horizon. [Zephaniah 1: 15 - "That day is a day of wrath; a day of trouble and distress; a day of ruin and desolation; a day of darkness and gloom; a day of clouds and thick darkness;..."] The dark clouds, it's war. The third world war. And this war will be the hardest. Hundreds of thousands and maybe millions will be killed. Two-thirds of the world will be destroyed. [Ezekiel 7:5,6,7 - "So said the Lord God: An evil, a singular evil, behold, it comes. An end has come; the end has come, it has awakened against you; behold, it comes. The dawn has set against you, O dweller of the land; the time has come; the day is near, confusion and not the shout of the mountains."] And Eretz Yisrael will not be destroyed, but the Jews, also in Eretz Yisrael, those who do not return in teshuva, those who continue their loitering in Olam Hazeh, they will not survive. That's not to say that there won't be anything in Eretz Yisrael, there will, but Eretz Yisrael will not be completely destroyed. I can only bless all Am Yisrael that we will return in complete teshuva and that our end will be the complete redemption, and that we will merit to this, because it will be the joy of all joys of the Olam Hazeh. But, I'm very worried that until we arrive to this, the world will be a ruined place. Really destroyed. Hashem will completely destroy all the evil, all the falsehood, and will bring us to the World-of-Truth. Without the yetzer hara. But - only with the truth.

Choose, Am Yisrael, choose. There's not much time. This war is standing before us. It's possible already to see it from afar, that it's advancing quickly toward us. A weapon - we shouldn't know of such - is in all the lands. Evil and falsehood are administering the world. There is no logic at all. The Satan leads them. The yetzer hara, the snake, rules over them. But at the end of the thing, in huge miracles, Hashem will erase them from existence. And to wait, even one minute, it's the most dangerous thing. We're obligated at this moment to change direction to the direction-of-truth, and to take out all the falsehood that you have in your lives.

The 11th Hour

The eleventh hour is a colloquial expression meaning "a time which is nearly too late". So says
Wikipedia.... but there are some other origins of this expression, notably: This expression comes from the Bible. The 11th hour is the last hour before the end of the world.
Interesting...that number Eleven again ....even more so when you listen to Rabbi Winston's
shiur
about Moshiach and the 10th Hour. (I know a lot of you don't have the time, so I've typed up the relevant bits)

Disclaimer: Any mistakes are mine, not his.[the following is taken from Rabbi Winston's shiur with a few added clarifications from me in blue]
5750 was a major turning point in Jewish history, as the Vilna Gaon explains:

Each 1000 years represents one day of Creation. The first thousand years represent Day One of Creation, the second millenium is Day Two.... and so on. Therefore this current millenium represents Day Six, the eve of Shabbat. And we know that Moshiach needs to come before Shabbat, before the end of 6000 years.

History Repeats

Everything that occurred at the time of Creation is going to have a corresponding reality in each millenium....each event will present itself again, in some way, every thousand years. History
literally repeats itself - on a different level - during each "day" (a "day" being a thousand years).

Knowing this, we can actually calculate the time Moshiach will arrive, so to speak, even though we are not permitted to calculate the date of His arrival, we can come close. {The Zohar says that as we come closer to the Geulah, even children will know how it will be.}

Moshiach's arrival is about tikkun - rectification. Therefore, Moshiach's arrival will correspond with the ideal time for tikkun as set out at the time of Creation.

The only reason we are all here is to rectify the original sin of Adam HaRishon in the Garden of Eden - the eating of the forbidden fruit. Adam ate from the tree of knowledge at the time of the
10th hour of day six of creation.

The gemara explains that during the 9th hour he was warned, and during the 10th hour (just before Shabbat) he ate the fruit.

The ideal time for tikkun/Moshiach will be in the period in history that corresponds to when he ate the forbidden fruit. 5750 was when the world entered that period of time - the time that
corresponds to the 10th hour of the sixth day of creation. (see Rabbi Winston's books at his website for all the details) 5750/1990 was the turning point, and the 10th hour lasts for 83.6 years (from 1990).
What happened in 1990: as a starting point, Russia imploded, Jews were allowed to leave: some went to Israel, some to America. Soon after in 1991 we had the Persian Gulf War. 10 years later, Y2K and then 911 when the world really did change for all to see.
The book that can change history
The one book that tells us what we're supposed to do at the end of history is Kol HaTor (The Voice of the Turtledove) based on the manuscripts of the Vilna Gaon and passed down through his talmidim until today. People don't talk about it, it gets pushed to the side, but that's the
book that can change history.

The Zohar tells us that Techias Hamaisim - the revival of the dead - takes place 210-214 years in advance of the year 6000, and the Zohar further says that Techias Hamaisim takes place AFTER the 40 years of the ingathering of the exiles. So according to the Zohar, history has to wrap itself up within 15 years from now. Techias Hamaisim is within 15 years. Hashem is bringing the end very fast.
I'm sure Moshiach ben Yosef has already come and gone, and there's reasons for that opinion - the Gra says that the job of Moshiach ben David is to conquer Yishmael - and this is the age of Yishmael - when Moshiach comes, Yishmael will go down. Before then, there are gevurahs (strict
judgments) which have to be rectified (sweetened). For example...last week's murder of the Fogel family in Itamar represented a bucket-load of gevurah.

The Gra says ultimately it depends on what we do. We should be talking about Moshiach, informing people... and reading Kol HaTor.

The Rebbe's Letter to a Prospective Rabbi

.....thinking xtians, muslims, mormons and the like should consider this also.....

By the Grace of G-d
23rd Adar I, 5717
Brooklyn NY

Mr. _____
Chelsee 50
Mass.
Greeting and Blessing:

I received your letter of February 12th, in which you give a brief account of your background and education, and that you are now considering entering the appropriate institution where conservative Rabbis are trained. You ask my opinion on this matter.

My opinion can only be based on the opinion of the Holy Torah, and as it has been formulated by Maimonides, to the effect that he who admits that the Torah is G-d-given, except for one verse which he holds was given by Moshe Rabbeinu himself, such a person is regarded as denying the whole Torah.

Even without the said ruling of Maimonides, this would be self-evident and logical. For one has to be consistent: Either one accepts that the Torah is Divine, in which case a human being with his limited intellect, inasmuch as all creation is limited, cannot possibly fathom the Divine Wisdom that is in the Torah, and cannot, therefore, select passages from it which appeal to his intellect and discard others which do not.

On the other hand, if a human being is so presumptuous as to use his own discretion with regard to the Torah, and accept or reject accordingly, this means that he regards the Torah as something which does not go deeper or beyond his human understanding. Consequently also, the Torah in his opinion has no greater binding force than that dictated by human reason, which in effect means no binding force at all, since no human being can impose his views on any other human being.

From the above, it is clear that Conservative and Reform Rabbis who follow the approach of reform and compromise on religion, completely misrepresent the true Jewish religion and, moreover, mislead those who are under their influence in believing that their own form of convenient "religion" is the kind for which our ancestors have given their lives for thousands of years. They will have their followers believe that their type of man-made religion is the religion revealed to us by G-d on Mount Sinai, and this is the greatest possible fraud. When a career is made of this type of religion, and human conscience and profoundest feelings are made a "trade-in-stock" in this unholy business, then a greater depravity cannot be imagined.

In view of what you write about your own background, I think it is superfluous to emphasize that there is a great difference between a person falling on occasion to withstand a temptation and therefore committing a transgression, and one who tries to justify such sins of omission and commission by saying that they are not transgressions at all, or that the Torah itself permits one to use one's own judgement, for in the latter case it is nothing but falsification of the truth, which is what Conservative and Reform preach. The fact that a Conservative Rabbi may himself be a thoroughly religious person, and observe in his private life all 613 Mitzvos, does not alter the situation if he represents the Conservative movement and disseminates its doctrines.

From the above, it is also evident that the use of the title "Rabbi" in its traditional sense is completely contradictory when it is applied to a conservative, and is in itself misleading and fraudulent to the unsuspecting congregations. Hence, to select such a career in the first place, in my opinion, is completely out of order.

It is well-known that there are many members in Conservative congregations, and sometimes even so-called spiritual leaders in the movement, who themselves negate completely the Conservative philosophy, accepting and following fully the whole Torah, and, in the latter case, have accepted positions as rabbis in Conservative temples for various reasons. This is also the case with regard to the person to whom you refer in your letter, who obviously does not belong at all in the Conservative movement, nor in the so-called "New" brand of Conservatism, which goes under the name of "Modern Orthodoxy". On the other hand, it is clearly obvious that such a situation is pregnant with constant inner conflicts, which are often even outwardly apparent. Therefore, it is certainly advisable and illogical to select a career which is bound to bring with it constant conflict and friction, both within himself and in relation to the environment, etc.

You write that hitherto you have succeeded in safeguarding your immunity from outside influence. But surely this does not jusify to place yourself in a situation which contains more than the average elements of temptations and trials, a road which is fraught with dangers and pitfalls. Rather the contrary, inasmuch as Divine Providence has been kind to you and has safeguarded you from such influences in the past, you should, once and for all, make up your mind to break away from that dangerous path.

If you are bent on a rabbinical career, surely it would be more desiarble for you to enroll into a proper Yeshivah which prepares and trains for the Orthodox rabbinate. If this seems a more difficult climb, nothing stands in the way of determination and will.
With blessing,

Amazing Story of Gilad Shalit and Chabad Family

The amazing story of how Jerusalem Shlucha Chana Canterman befriended Aviva Shalit and the 20 year old dollar from the Rebbe that resulted in recent blessings.
By COLlive reporter

Aviva Shalit, mother of the now released Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, placed a phone call Monday to Chana Canterman, a Chabad Shlucha in Jerusalem, to update on her son's health.

"He's fine! He's fine!" Mrs. Shalit joyfully said.

The connection between the two who live in the same country but spend time in different spheres began when the Shalit family began campaigning for their son outside the prime minister's residence.

Sgt. Gilad Shalit was captured by Hamas terrorists on 25 June 2006 in a cross-border raid via underground tunnels near the border with Gaza.

Chana and her husband Rabbi Eli Canterman, the Shluchim in the Talbiyeh neighborhood in Israel's capital, were one of the volunteers who provided meals for the Shalits in their protest tent.

The Cantermans had the Sunday shift and have since become close friends with the Shalit family, visiting them often and praying together for Gilad's release from Hamas captivity.

Chana would spend hours shopping and cooking beautiful meals for the family, a friend of the Cantermans said.

"Slowly they had to bring larger amounts of food each week because everyone would visit on Sunday because they loved her cooking," the friend said.

CLOSE BOND

Naturally, they became close friends with Aviva and her husband Noam Shalit, providing not only food but emotional and psychological support during this time.

"When I flew in to New York for the annual Kinus Hashluchos convention on 24 Shvat, I asked Aviva what I could bring her back from the U.S.," recalled Mrs. Canterman in an interview with COLlive.com.

"She told me, 'All I want is Gilad. I don't need presents.' All she thought about was her son."

The Cantermans also made sure to come by for holidays, in addition to the Sunday visit. For Purim, they organized a festive meal for family and guests, and brought them Matzah on Pesach. During Lag BaOmer day, children came to the tent to say the 12 pesukim (holy passages).

On April 17th, the day before last Pesach, Chana Canterman brought a special gift to Aviva Shalit along with her meal: a dollar bill that she had received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe that was to be given to a worthy charity.

"Take this dollar," said Chana, "and may it be a Segulah (merit) that Gilad be released this year."

Aviva accepted the dollar gratefully and carried it with her wherever she went.

"It was a very depressing period for the family," Canterman recalls. "We wanted to give them an opening of hope and strength to continue waiting for the healthy return of their son."

SUDDEN PROGRESS

On the same day the Shalits received the dollar, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Shalits he replaced the official mediator from Chagai Hadas to David Medan.

Miraculously, Medan began to receive messages from the Hamas with signs of Gilad Shalit being alive and in stable condition.

On Rosh Hashana, Rabbi Canterman came by to blow shofar for them. A week later, they heard that Gilad was going to be released on Tishrei 20 - on Chol Hamoed Sukkos.

The next day, Mrs. Canterman texted Aviva Shalit asking her if she can check the date written on the dollar from the Rebbe (Chabad chassidim often write on the bill when it was received).

Mrs. Shalit excitedly replied that the date on the dollar that Canterman received over 20 years before from the Rebbe, was Tuesday, 20 Tishrei, the date that Gilad Shalit was released by the terrorists.

And the year that dollar was given? 5751 - the Hebrew year chassidim spelled out as "the year we will see miracles and wonders."

Meanings and Reasons of Your Faith

It is the bounden duty of all who are not intellectually incapable of independent thought, to search out the true meaning of the doctrines they accept, and the foundations of these doctrines in Reason.

FAITH WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE

The faith of the believer is not complete unless he knows the meaning and the reasons of his belief. And this knowledge that enables one to fulfil the duties of the heart, is the hidden wisdom that is the light of hearts and the bright effulgence of souls; and concerning it Scripture says: - (Ps.6) "Behold Thou desirest truth in the inward parts and in the hidden, Thou wilt make me to know wisdom." It is only those of weak intellect who are not culpable if they take on trust what it is man's duty to search out. But whoever has the strength of intellect, and the power to sift and prove, is sinful if he neglects to do so, and also even his lack of knowledge is a sin.

The Gates of Knowledge

Three gates the Creator has opened to mankind, so that they may enter into the domain of spirituality, ethical conduct and the laws divine, that guide us in our works and daily life to health of body and of mind and soul. The first is the lofty portal of pure Reason, with all obstructing errors cleared away; the second is the book of Torah, revealed to Moses, the prophet; the third is built up of traditions.

Satan’s Accomplice - Satan’s Strategies

Shmiras Haloshon Yomi
3 Tishrei, 5772 / October 1, 2011

Day 3 - Satan’s Accomplice
SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM (or Chafetz Chaim or Hafetz Hayim) (Hebrew: חָפֵץ חַיִּים‎‎) (trans. Desirer of Life) is a book on the Jewish laws of speech written by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan.

The book is about the mitzvot relating to correct speech and the prohibitions of slander. The title of the work is taken from

Psalms 34:12–15:
"Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of God. Who is the man that desires life; who loves days, that he may see goodness [during them]? Guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit; turn from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it."

Preface (Continued)

The Chofetz Chaim has stated and proven beyond any doubt that the sin of loshon hora (gossip), which was the cause of the Second Temple’s destruction, is the factor which up to this day has prevented us from being redeemed through Moshiach’s arrival. The question is, why? How could this one sin be so destructive?

To understand the severity of loshon hora and its ramifications, one must first understand the judicial system in Heaven through which the Jewish People are judged. The Chofetz Chaim explains that the Heavenly judicial process is initiated by words which Jews speak on this world. Our negative conversations are the key which opens the door for Satan to prosecute.

As Zohar states, (Parashas Shelach - http://www.chabad.org/parshah/torahreading_cdo/aid/45586 read all 7 portions), this sin “brings plague, sword and murder to this world. Woe to those who awaken this evil force, who do not guard their tongues and pay no heed to this! They do not realize that the ways of Heaven are reflective of the ways on this world, both for good and for bad. [Through evil talk,] Satan is aroused to voice accusation against the entire world.”

In this vein, the Chofetz Chaim explains that the teaching (Arachin 15b), “Whoever speaks loshon hora raises sins to the Heavens,” should be taken literally. When we speak negatively of our fellow Jews, this causes the sins of our people to be noted in Heaven, where they are brought before the Heavenly Throne for judgment. We think we’re merely chatting, when in reality, we’re delivering the day’s caseload to Satan.

The Chofetz Chaim offers a second reason why loshon hora is so damaging. Because loshon hora utilizes the power of speech to do its damage, it corrupts this faculty and prevents our Torah and tefillah (prayer) from ascending Heavenward. The Chofetz Chaim envisions the sacred words that pour forth from a mouth corrupted by loshon hora. He sees them heading upward toward our “Heavenly bank accounts,” but never quite getting there. We believe we have accomplished something spiritually, but that’s not what happened. The Chofetz Chaim says, “All the words of Torah and tefillah are hanging somewhere between heaven and earth, suspended in the air.” He concludes: if our Torah and tefillah are not being credited to us, then, “From where will we acquire the necessary merit to bring Mashiach and the Final Redemption?”

4 Tishrei, 5772 / October 4, 2011

Day 4 - Satan’s Strategies
SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM — Preface (Continued)

“I wondered to myself,” the Chofetz Chaim writes, “how was it possible that this Torah prohibition of loshon hora (gossip) came to be disregarded by so many people?”

The Chofetz Chaim answers this by introducing us to the main strategy of the evil inclination and the tactics which it utilizes to entangle us in the powerful sin of loshon hora.

The average person, writes the Chofetz Chaim, is simply unaware that the prohibition of loshon hora applies to information that is true. (Information that is false is termed hotza’as shem ra, slander.) Therefore, all Satan needs to do is to present information as being true and most people will readily repeat it, though according to halachah (Torah law) such talk is absolutely forbidden.

For people who are more learned, Satan uses a different approach. He convinces the person that the subject of the loshon hora is an evil person and therefore deserves that loshon hora be spoken about him, or that this information is not loshon hora.

If these tactics fail, Satan uses an opposite tactic. He causes the person to worry that every word he speaks might be loshon hora even when it is not. Satan makes it appear that the only choice one has is not to speak at all. Since most people are involved in conversation numerous times each day, the only solution seems to be to ignore the laws of loshon hora, for they are impossible to keep. Satan really is quite clever!

Once Satan has convinced people to speak loshon hora, he goes about spreading his web of misinformation further to draw people into listening to the loshon hora, based on their lack of knowledge of the halachah.

For these reasons, the Chofetz Chaim writes, the sin of loshon hora had become small in the eyes of the world. People became accustomed to speaking without measuring their words against the Torah’s standards. Eventually, loshon hora was no longer viewed as an evil, thereby allowing bitter, damaging conversation to become acceptable, unrecognized as the terrible sin that it is.

Shmiras haloshon, guarding one’s speech, became the mitzvah of the pious, not of ordinary Jews, an irrelevant issue to most people. Satan’s strategies had succeeded. A most severe Torah prohibition, certainly equal to that of eating non-kosher food, was now considered to be nothing more than an optional stringency that only few were concerned with.

All of Satan’s strategies, writes the Chofetz Chaim, were based on his ability to spread misinformation. This was possible because the correct information was generally inaccessible. The laws of loshon hora were scattered throughout the Talmud, having never been collected and organized. People were drowning in the sin of loshon hora simply because they were totally ignorant of it and had no way of learning about it.

It was this tragic situation which impelled the Chofetz Chaim to write his monumental work - Sefer Chofetz Chaim.

Dear Friend

As you know from our email last week Thursday, the White House launched a new feature on their website called "We The People" where every person 13 years and older in the U.S. can now petition the White House on important matters.

Well, it has been 5 days (only 4 days for us as we had Shabbos Kodesh) and we are #3 in the entire USA with nearly 20,000 votes! And we are not far away from the the #2 petition (only about 2500 more votes needed).

See the petition here: http://wh.gov/gWM

But this is not nearly enough -- we must get additional tens of thousand of signatures in order for it to have a proper impact.

BUT WE CAN'T DO IT ALONE! WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Rosh Hashana is tomorrow night and this may likely push us down further. We need to do a major campaign to garner enough votes before Rosh Hashana so we can at least stay at the same place till after Rosh Hashana. We will need help after Rosh Hashana as well publicizing this.

And so here is how you can help:

1) Please take this on as your mini-project and email/twitter/facebook all your contacts urging them to sign the petition.

2) Call and email family and friends and remind them personally about the importance of this petition.

3) Get this posted on websites, newsites etc.

4) If you know anyone in the community who has a big email list or big twitter following, please make them aware of the situation with R' Sholom Mordechai and ask them to please join this noble cause.

5) If you are able to organize a place for people who don't have a access to the Internet so they can also take part in this big mitzva that would be a major help and a big z'chus.

Remember every person 13 years and older with a valid email address can vote. Here are the instructions:

1) Visit http://wh.gov/gWM
2) Click "Create An Account" and fill out form
3) Check your email and click link
4) Click "Sign This Petition"

In the z'chus of this may we be merit a happy, healthy and sweet year, a year of redemption for us all!

God Shows His Strength-Wrath - WATCH THIS!

Our Rav Yehuda has brought us another jewel from the Ma'ayanei Hayeshuah of Rav Yaakov Moshe Charlap, ztz"l, who says that Hashem built the Creation in such a way that His hand in it would be hidden in the form of nature and that this was to last for six thousand years. That He set the world up so that it would run by a process which begins in a hidden way and concludes with revelation. The example is given of a seed which goes into the ground and when the process of germination is complete, it sprouts out of the ground and reveals itself. So, too, at the end of the six thousand years, as the Redemption draws closer, nature will more and more reveal the Hand of Hashem behind it.
Following is an amazing video of the "natural" events, bordering on the "SUPERnatural", which have occurred during the preceding year. (Just please disregard the three or so NT references since they don't say anything that the Hebrew prophets didn't already say.)

Prohibition Against Gossip

1. The prohibition against telling many people L"H

It is forbidden to speak Lashon Hara against one another, even if the information is true, and even if told to only one person - all the more so is it forbidden to speak L"H before a group of listeners. The greater the number of listeners that one gathers to hear his L"H, the greater his sin, for the subject is further disgraced by the heightened publicity against him. Also, the speaker causes more people to sin by putting them in the position to listen to L"H.

The Sacrifices of God

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart,
O God, Thou will not despise" (Psalms 51:19).
"A broken spirit" connotes a lowly and humble spirit, and "a broken heart" relates to the breaking of physical desire; for the heart is the repository of desire, as it is said,

"Thou has given him his heart's desire" (ibid. 21:3).

The fact that the statement, "A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise" is found in the psalm of repentance teaches us that the penitent is rendered acceptable to God through the breaking of physical desire, and that this last-mentioned element is a principle of repentance. Is is further stated in relation to repentance.

"...... to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the
contrite ones" (Isaiah 57:15).

Petition for One Sabbath, Together

A grassroots group calling itself Emet 9 is calling for the Jewish people to unite by keeping at least one Sabbath day together. The group hopes that doing so will bring a better future for all Jews, and for the world.

Emet 9 has started a petition aimed at encouraging Sabbath observance on one day in particular – September 10, 2011, shortly before the upcoming High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

“By coming together as one people as we did at Mt. Sinai we can only hope to annul any Heavenly decrees that may befall us in the upcoming months,” the group explained. “We do have the power to redirect the destiny of Israel and the Jewish world.”

The petition notes, “You have nothing to lose and only to gain by observing this mitzvah one time.” Organizers include links to a guide on how to keep the Sabbath, and to Sabbath times in various areas.

What Happened on the Ninth of Av?

The 9th of Av, Tisha b'Av, commemorates a list of catastrophes so severe it's clearly a day specially cursed by G d.

Picture this: The year is 1313 BCE. The Israelites are in the desert, recently having experienced the miraculous Exodus, and are now poised to enter the Promised Land. But first they dispatch a reconnaissance mission to assist in formulating a prudent battle strategy. The spies return on the eighth day of Av and report that the land is unconquerable. That night, the 9th of Av, the people cry. They insist that they'd rather go back to Egypt than be slaughtered by the Canaanites. G‑d is highly displeased by this public demonstration of distrust in His power, and consequently that generation of Israelites never enters the Holy Land. Only their children have that privilege, after wandering in the desert for another 38 years.

The First Temple was also destroyed on the 9th of Av (423 BCE). Five centuries later (in 69 CE), as the Romans drew closer to the Second Temple, ready to torch it, the Jews were shocked to realize that their Second Temple was destroyed the same day as the first.

SO MUCH MORE HAPPENED - and this is why we mourn these 9 days. We also mourn our present and last exile that we will be in.

"Where is the Agreement?"

Rabbi Yehoshua Ben-Meir related the following story:

During the Yom Kippur War, I served as an army chaplain in an IDF division in the Golan Heights. It was a terrible war. The battles and the conditions were extraordinarily difficult. Every day we witnessed death before our eyes.

We had been taught in the Mercaz HaRav yeshivah that the redemption is a process, one that grows and advances, progressing from strength to strength. But in this war there was a feeling of retreat. The blow was terrible, the pain was searing. In those trying times, I felt a tremendous need to examine and clarify my beliefs. I needed to understand how this bitter war fit in the process of Israel's redemption.

After two months of fighting at the front, with no showers, in extremely harsh conditions, I received a short leave.

I went straight to Jerusalem. The hour was late, two o'clock in the morning. But I felt an urgent need to speak with the rosh yeshivah, Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah Kook. I decided that I would first go to his house. Hesitantly, I knocked on the door of his apartment on Ovadiah Street. The rabbi peeked through the peephole. He immediately opened the door and said, "Give me the document."

Apparently the rabbi was expecting some document from the army. I was so grimy and dirty, I figured he didn't recognize me.

"Rabbi, it's me, Yehoshua Ben-Meir."

"Yes, yes," Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah responded. "Bring the document."

I had no idea what the rabbi was talking about. He took my hand, led me into his room, and sat me down on a chair. Again he insisted, "Show me the paper."

"Rabbi, it's me, Yehoshua Ben-Meir from the yeshiva."

"Yes, I know. The document. Bring me the document."

I was completely baffled. I still figured that the rabbi did not recognize me because of all the grease and dirt.

"'Rabbi, what document are you talking about?"

"You have an agreement with God how the redemption is supposed to take place. And God changed the agreement. So show me the document. Let us examine what is written there, and we will decide."

I heard the rabbi's words, and then - for the first time since the war broke out - I burst out in tears. Tears that released the pain and tension that had accumulated within me, from the horrible events that I had witnessed.

I was amazed how quickly the rabbi had understood me. In those few seconds, from when he saw me through the peephole until I entered the room, he had identified my problem and known the solution.

'Did We Not Learn?'

The rabbi sat with me for a long time, maybe two hours. He took down books from the shelves. Before starting to study, he said, "Perhaps you have not learned this. And if you have, perhaps you did not review it. And if you reviewed, perhaps you forgot. Did we not learn..."

The first book he opened was the commentary of thirteenth-century scholar Rabbeinu Bechaye. After God sent Moses to Egypt to redeem the people, matters only got worse. Moses complained to God, "Why have You made it worse for Your people?" (Ex. 5:22)

On this verse, Rabbeinu Bechaye noted that this situation is not unique to the redemption from Egypt. The future redemption will also be accompanied by many difficulties, by times of darkness that will conceal the light of redemption.

The rabbi opened the Maharal and the Kuzari and the Midrash, reviewing with me various sources. After two hours of study, I came out strengthened. I was armed with the spiritual strength to continue.

Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah had the genius to sense the needs of each student. He could plumb the depths of one's soul and provide the response one needed...

The Gates of Repentance

"Good and upright is the Lord; therefore doth He instruct sinners in the way" (Psalms 25:8). Even if they have offended and rebelled exceedingly, and been utterly faithless, He has not closed the doors of repentance to then, as it is said, "Turn ye unto Him against whom ye have deeply rebelled, O children of Israel" (Isaiah 31:6), and, "Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings" (Jeremiah 2:22).

The Torah in many instances exhorts us in relation to repentance. It is shown that penance is accepted even when the sinner repents because of his many troubles, much more so when his repentance proceeds from the fear and love of God, as it is said, "In thy distress, when all these things are come upon thee, in the end of days, thou wilt return to the Lord thy God and hearken to His voice" (Deuteronomy 4:30). And it is clear from the Torah that God assists the penitent when they are limited by their nature, and implants in them a spirit of purity whereby they may attain to the level of loving Him, as it is said, "And thou shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and hearken to His voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart and with all thy soul" (ibid. 30:2); and in the same connection it is said, "And the Lord thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed..."(ibid. 6) to attain to the love of God. The Prophets and The Writings are replete with references to repentance, so that all of the principles of repentance are contained withing them, as will be explained.

STEPPING STONES TO REPENTANCE: A THIRTY-DAY PROGRAM

The 9 days have begun. Let us look inside to see where we can better ourselves - where we need to do teshuva, where we need to do more good deeds, where we need to guard our mouth from speaking loshon hora and guard our eyes from the unmodesty that surrounds us.

B”H
INTRODUCTION
STEPPING STONES TO REPENTANCE: A THIRTY-DAY PROGRAM

The Talmud (Berachos 3b) tells us: “A harp was hanging over King David’s bed. At midnight a north wind came and blew upon it and it played. King David arose immediately and studied Torah until the break of dawn…” Which verse teaches us this?

“Awake, my soul, awake, lyre and harp; I will awaken the dawn (Tehillim 57:9).”

The Maharsha points out that the word awake appears three times in this verse
corresponding to the three types of spiritual awakening. They are:

1. A person arouses himself.
2. A person uses another entity to arouse himself.
3. A person arouses another person (or entity).

King David aroused himself to study Torah from dusk till midnight — “Awake, my soul.” At midnight, the harp awakened him to rise as a lion — “Awake, lyre and harp.” Then King David awakened the morning — “I will awaken the dawn.”

King David’s vibrant study of Torah throughout the night was powered by all three
types of arousal — each one strengthening the next. We understand from this passage
that before a person can serve Hashem, he must be spiritually awake.

The month of Elul precedes the holy days of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. This month was designated by our Sages as a time for preparation to awaken and arouse ourselves for the upcoming Days of Awe. How can this be accomplished?

Rav Yisrael Salanter, the founder of the Mussar movement, teaches us that Mussar study is the primary and most effective way to open our hearts towards teshuvah (repentance) on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur.

Stepping Stones to Repentance: A Thirty-Day Program was designed to guide you step by step through the preparation necessary to merit the abundant blessings of the Holy Days. Although it was designed especially for the month of Elul, one may begin Stepping Stones to Repentance at any time. Set aside a specific time each day to learn a daily segment of the program. Read each segment aloud, with feeling, and take time to absorb the profound concepts.

May Hashem bless you in your commitment to complete Stepping Stones to Repentance. May it awaken your heart, particularly during the designated Ten Days of Repentance, and may the collective repentance of klal Yisrael arouse mercy in Heaven that we may merit the final redemption and the rebuilding of the Beis HaMikdash (the Temple) soon and within our days!

Soon and Very Soon - Moshiach!

It's not as if we're completely in the dark. The Jewish nation actually knows quite a bit about what's coming up. That's why the Jews are always optimistic in spite of our challenges. The 14 Essential
Elements of
Future Days

Don Isaac Ben Judah Abarbanel (1437-1508) was a Jewish statesmen and scholar. He lived during the idyllic age of Spanish Jewry before the exile of 1492 (Spanish Inquisition). By his late twenties, The Abarbanel — a descenant of King David — was recognized as a learned and prominent member of Lisbon's Jewish community, having written books on various facets of Jewish philosophy. He also wrote a commentary on the Haggadah and three books on the subject of the Messiah.

One of his works, Mashmia Yeshuah contains a list of 14 "essential elements" of the future "redemption" (see sidebar --> ) of the Jewish nation gleaned from the Prophets..

And now, here are the 14 Essential Elements that will happen as we move closer to the days when God and the Jewish people become one again.

The 14 Essential Elements of the Jewish Redemption

WHAT WAS SAID?BY WHOM?

1
GOD WILL TAKE REVENGE UPON THE IDOLATERS. What is an "Idolator"? Back in Bible-days there were people who used statues of wood or metal as the focus for occult practices. They were not stupid people — they were evil people. They were learned in methods of using forces of Touma (impurity). God put forces of Touma in the world as tests/temptations for people to reject them. So, these idolaters decided it was more beneficial for them to use these forces for whatever pleasure or protection the forces of Touma provided. But this is forbidden to the Jews. We look to God only for all of our needs. And God instructs us to be ever-mindful that He alone determines every aspect of existence. Does idol worship exist today? It has been suggested that money and materialism is almost like idol worship, when a person stops praying to God for his life's needs and instead puts his efforts in acquiring wealth and possesions to solidify his standing. God wants us to depend on Him for our security and to amplify our God connection through prayer, Jewish studies, acts of kindness and all the mitzvot we can do.So prophesied almost all of the prophets — there were 48 of them!

2
THE REVENGE AGAINST EDOM WILL BE GREATER THAN THE OTHER NATIONS and there will be no remnant of the house of Esau (Edom): Ovadyah 1:18. There are (were) 4 great empires or world cultures; Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. Babylon was destroyed, Persia was taken over and vanished, and Greece was assimilated into Rome. That leaves us today with many world cultures of Roman origin and with Roman "values" that place 'outer-form' over 'inner-content' But the Torah commands Jews to place special emphasis on developing rich inner-lives and deep connections to God. So now we can understand why the idealism of the Jewish people conflicts with "Western Culture". These cultures are destined for an attitude change when God reveals his desires to the world.Prophesied Yeshayah, Yoel, Amos, Ovadyah, Michah & Chavkkuk

3
THE JEWISH PEOPLE WILL BE REDEEMED and return from their exile. From the time of the destruction of the 2nd Temple, around the year 70 CE (3828 years from Creation) the Jewish people were scattered ("exiled") to the four corners of the globe, settling in widely dispersed places. This was all in God's plan, in part so that His people could be a positive influence on all of humanity. When the time arrives we'll all be gathered back to Jerusalem for the next era in world history.Prophesied Yeshayah, Yirmiah, Yechezkel, Hoshea, Yoel, Amos, Ovadyah, Michah, Chavkkuk, Tzefanyah, Chaggai, Zecharyah, & Malachi

4
THE TEN LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL WILL BE RETURNED from their exile. After the death of King Solomon, Israel is split into two countries Israel in the north, and Judea in the south. The 10 tribes that lived in the north countries are eventually carried into exile by the Assyrians (more than 2,700 years, 8th century B.C.E.), and scattered into Irag, Persia and Afganastan. They assimilated into other cultures and were lost. At the end of days they will return.Prophesied Yeshayah, Yirmiah, Yechezkel, Hoshea, Ovadyah, Michah & Tzefanyah

5
THE FINAL REDEMPTION WILL BE SIMILAR TO OUR EXODUS FROM EGYPT
  • No Jew will be left in exile
  • Our oppressors will be destroyed
  • The redemption will be with miracles and through a great prophet (like Moshe in Egypt)
  • God will do a miracle similar to the splitting of the sea
  • Prophesied Yeshayah, Hoshea, Zecharyah & Michah

    6
THE REDEMPTION WILL OCCUR AT THE APPOINTED TIME despite the fact that there may be Jews who do not deserve to be redeemed. This means that no matter how many mistakes or "sins" the Jews make in their lives it won't affect God's timetable. He has a plan for the world, and that plan (story) will be played out no matter what. Understand it this way; This world is a story. From God's point of view, since he is outside the "system of time", He sees all history as a complete entity — a complete story. But for us, who are living within the system of time we just experience this story day by day. At Creation God made a "schedule", and nothing will alter it. At the appropriate time, evil doers will be destroyed and the righteous will come to the Land of Israel and inherit its greatness.Prophesied Yeshayah, Yoel, Michah, Chavkkuk, Tzefanyah & Zecharyah

    7
THE REDEMPTION WILL FOLLOW PROLONGED SUFFERING in the exile. We were scattered amongst the other nations after the destruction of the 2nd Temple, and it's been a long, hard exile under the tyranny of powerful and oppressive world forces. Our sages explain the purpose in our suffering is the development of character traits and refinements that our challenges bring to us. The war of Gog and Magog is a part of the end of days, and may be one of the sources for the suffering mentioned here.Prophesied Yeshayah, Yirmiah, Chavkkuk & Tzefanyah

    8
THE DIVINE PRESENCE (SHECHINAH) WILL RETURN TO DWELL AMONG THE JEWS EVEN MORE FULLY THAN AT MOUNT SINAI. To put it another way, the Jewish people, who during the era of the Two Temples (offsite info. on the Beit HaMikdash) had an open and visible spiritual role in world affairs will once again regain their favored nation status and a new world era will have begun. Included in this is the age of the Messiah (Moshiach) who will arrive on the world scene to set things straight, and eliminate the conflict between people's good nature and their lower "animal" nature. That means no more wars, no more conflict between people. And this was promised to the world community by God, and given over to us through the words of the Jewish Prophets — who else? The spirit of Prophecy will return to those who are prepared for it and the entire Jewish people will have limitless wisdom and knowledge. Therefore teaching will cease, because the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of God (Yeshayah 11:9)Prophesied Yeshayah, Yirmiah, Hoshea, Yoel, Ovadyah, Michah, Chavkkuk, Tzefanyah, Chaggai & Zecharyah

    9
THE JEWS WHO ASSIMILATED WILL RETURN TO GOD. Whether because of compulsion, coercion, persuasion, etc. everyone on the planet will get a big wake-up, adjust their lives and return to God with all their heart. It's really good news and we're all praying it happens soon and peacefully — but the world's present situation is troubling. This website was created to educate people and tip the scales in favor of a wonderful, peaceful transition. The more people know about the Jewish future the more they can create a grassroots effort to make this world work smoothly and peacefully.Prophesied Yeshayah

    10
A KING WILL REIGN FROM THE HOUSE OF DAVID AND THE SPIRIT OF GOD WILL REST UPON HIM. And this is the Earthly leader of it all — the Messiah (Moshiach). And we've been waiting for him for thousands of years. The Messiah will administer justice and his laws will be obeyed throughout the world. Did you know Messianic beliefs were a Jewish concept before anyone else got a hold of them?Prophesied Yeshayah, Yirmiah, Yechezkel, Hoshea, Amos & Zecharyah

    11
THE REDEMPTION WILL BE PERMANENT.World history has been winding up to this point in time, all world events have been organized for this purpose. God will purify the hearts of the Jews and they will never return to foolishness or sin. That means that at this time our hearts are very much influenced and swayed by factors of this physical world. At this point it can't be any other way. But as the world transforms to a more spiritual place, God will actually remove from our human heart and psyche the tendency for evil. Eternally righteous, the Jewish people will inherit the land forever (Yeshayah 60:21).Prophesied Yeshayah, Yirmiah, Yoel, Amos, Michah, Tzefanyah & Zecharyah

    12
THE MAJORITY OF THE REMAINING NATIONS WILL ACCEPT AND SERVE GOD AND TURN TO HIS TORAH. When God makes "big noises" in the world some folks get the message and some don't. On 9/11 when the Twin Towers fell some people understood God did that for a reason, and some people are still in denial that God is even around. But as we move closer to the end of this stage of history our Prophets and Sages tell us there will be more big noises and the world leaders will be forced to finally accept the whole package, God, Torah and the Jews.Prophesied Yeshayah, Hoshea, Yoel, Tzefanyah, Zecharyah & Malachi

    13
THERE WILL BE PEACE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. "And they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears; no nation will raise up a sword to another and none will learn the art of war anymore" (Yeshayah 2:4). It's the promise of a world without war that we've all been waiting for. But in order to have it, you've got to have God along with it to persuade us all that life is serious enough to save and cherish. Before, all the anti-war movements wanted a peaceful world but without a moral imperitive. That means people wanted freedom to do whatever they wanted to, without the admission that there is God, and He expects humans to be aware of Him and yes, to pray.Prophesied Yeshayah & Chaggai

    14
THE WORTHY DEAD WILL BE RESURRECTED. Would you have thought it's a Jewish concept? When God sees fit, those people who developed themselves sufficiently will come back to live in the perfected world community — the world free of lower, evil influences. We don't know too much about this — we can't — yet. But it was promised to us by the Prophets and this concept is woven throughout all Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah.
